“The Bellwether Sheep and the Mosquito Fleet” / A Musical Tribute to the 120th Anniversary of the Sinking of the S.S. Clallam

50 Feet of Song present “The Bellwether Sheep of the Mosquito Fleet” for two nights at the Rabbit Box Theatre!

On the morning of January 8th, 1904 the SS Clallam was making its regular stop in Seattle before departing to Victoria, BC. On this particular morning, the bellwether sheep who was responsible for leading the sheep herd aboard refused to budge from the dock. Later that day, in the open waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the SS Clallam sank and left behind few survivors. This story would not leave my mind, and when I learned the 120th anniversary was coming up, that became my deadline.

Tune into 91.3 FM KBCS on January 8th, 2024 at 1pm to hear “The Bellwether Sheep of the Mosquito Fleet” performed live on-air. I’ll be releasing the song on my bandcamp page that day as well. https://jonpontrello.bandcamp.com/

  1. Jon:

Nice promo. It’s turning out to be quite the unveiling package.

Feel free, if you wish, in future promos to include the “Now & Then” column, to appear in print Jan. 7, 2024, and be posted online Jan. 4, 2024, with web extras that include the video of you singing the song and of you being interviewed at the ferry terminal.
